North Carolina's most visited historic site.

Picture
The Fort Fisher State Historic Site is top attraction that is a must-see for both history buffs and novices.  Twisted limbs of live oak trees decorate this landscape that was once a Confederate fort during the American Civil war. A good starting-off point is the Fort Fisher State Historic Museum and Visitor Center.  Interactive displays and fiber-optic maps provide a crash course in the history of this region.
